The government surveys of the 1800s produced the square mile grids that form the bais of township plat maps. Plat maps show property owners name and acerage owned, providing a glimps of land use and ownership history since settlement days. The society's collection of maps begins at land grant days and ends with the 1990 map. These maps can be accessed at our Plat Map Archive.
Be aware that we have found plat maps do contain errors.
The 1891 plat map is an excellent example of the better maps and has been reproduced by the society. This 16 x 20 map, printed on heavy stock, is available at the society gift shop or by mail. Call the museum office at 262-679-6508 for more information.
